2026 Artist: Matyas Veer
Matyas Veer is a bass trombonist, active soloist, and founding member of the Corpus Trombone Quartet. He is currently a member of the State Opera Orchestra Stuttgart (Staatsorchester Stuttgart) and serves as Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Music Würzburg. From October 2026, he will join the Frankfurt Radio Symphony as bass trombonist.
Born in Hungary, Matyas Veer began his musical journey at the age of eight, studying both trombone and singing. He completed his studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest with Tivadar Sztán and Dr. Gusztáv Hőna. Bass trombone became his artistic focus, leading to numerous international competition successes, including prizes at the International Trombone Festival competitions in Birmingham (2006) and New Orleans (2005), the Jeju International Brass Competition (2008), and the BMC International Bass Trombone Competition in Budapest (2016).
As a founding member of the Corpus Trombone Quartet, he has won three first prizes at prestigious international competitions, including the Jan Koetsier Competition in Munich, the Philipp Jones Competition in Guebwiller, and the International Trombone Festival Quartet Competition in Helsinki.
Matyas Veer has held orchestral positions with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra (NedPhO) in Amsterdam, and the Essener Philharmoniker. He is currently a full-time member of the Staatsorchester Stuttgart.
As a sought-after orchestral musician, he has collaborated with many of the world’s leading ensembles, working with distinguished conductors and performing with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Opera North, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic, The Hallé, Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to his performing career, he is the principal organizer of the Hungarian Trombone Camp, contributing actively to the development of the next generation of trombonists.
