Louise Pollock
Professor at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin
Louise Pollock is Professor for Trombone at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Previously, she was principal trombonist at the Gothenburg Opera/Sweden from 2015 to 2023 and taught trombone at the University of Gothenburg Academy of Music and Drama. Prior to that, she was engaged by the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra for three years. Currently, she is also serving as Principal Trombone of the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin.
Her students have won auditions for permanent positions in various European orchestras, for example with the Royal Opera Copenhagen/Denmark, the orchestra of Ciudad de Melilla/Spain, or the Bergische Symphoniker/Germany. Her students have also won the auditions for contracts and academy positions in orchestras such as the Opera Hamburg, Staatstheater Halle, Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal or the Osnabrücker Symphonieorchester and they have won prizes at several international competitions for trombone and brass chamber music.
Louise has been awarded numerous prizes at national and international competitions, was a scholarship holder of the 2014 German Music Competition of the German Music Council and received the 1st Prize and the Audience Award at the International Aeolus Wind Competition in Düsseldorf in 2016.
Louise has performed as a soloist with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Bjergsted Blåsensemble, the Gothenburg Opera, Theater für Niedersachsen Philharmonie, the Duisburg Philharmonic, or the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, among others.
As a jury member she is invited to international competitions, for example to the International Instrument Competition Markneukirchen/Germany, the trombone competition of the Internationale Posaunenvereinigung, or the International Brass Competition in Jeju/South Korea. Furthermore, she is regularly invited as a soloist and teacher to masterclasses and festivals. Some examples are: Brassweek Samedan in Switzerland, Tourbon Brass Festival in Chile, Tromboholizm Trombone Music Festival in Poznan, Corno Brass Music Festival Zielona Gora in Poland, to the Norwegian Bjergsted Brass Festival Stavanger, VeronaBones in Italy, Galaico Brass Festival in Spain, Lille Trombone Festival, France, Tirolklang in Austria or the International Trombone Festival.
In 2023 she was elected to serve as the President of the German Internationale Posaunenvereinigung e.V. as well as to the "Board of Advisors" of the International Trombone Association.
Louise Pollock grew up in Switzerland and graduated as the best student of the year from the Mathematics and Science Highschool in Zurich. She completed her Bachelor's studies with Prof. Branimir Slokar at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg i. Br., and continued her Master's studies with Prof. Henning Wiegräbe at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. She is a Conn Artist and plays exclusively on a Conn 88H built in 1964.
