Sophie Bright
Sophie Rebecca Bright is a British-Swiss trombonist, born in France in 2004. From an early age, she performed internationally with the big band “Dai Kimoto & Swing Kids.” Her musical awards include multiple first prizes at the Swiss Youth Music Competition, the Beringer Jazz Award, the EMCY Prize, and first prize at the 2023 European Thomas Kuti Competition. At the age of 18 she was a trombone finalist at the Aeolus Competition and won the prize for best interpretation of a contemporary work.
In 2025 she graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Arts from the Hochschule der Künste Bern and is now pursuing a Master’s at the Royal Academy of Music in London, supported by the ABRSM Scholarship, the Fritz-Gerber and the Lyra foundations. Sophie has performed with orchestras as soloist, including the St. Gallen Chamber Orchestra, Mittelsächsische Philharmonie, and the Zürich Tonhalle Orchestra. The Flims Music festival 2025 praised her for mature musicality and effortless versatility, bridging classical and jazz genres with natural fluency.
In 2026 Sophie became a Finalist in the Royal Overseas Leage Annual Music Competition in the Wind, Brass and Percussion category, where she was also awarded the Phillip Jones Memorial Prize for Outstanding Brass Player.
